isn’t it interesting how character archetypes become engraved in our minds and affect our perception of things? even when canon gives us a broad range of interpretation, due to tropes we’ve seen millions of times we tend to stay within a limited range of representation.

if I’m allowed to get a little tangent-y here, the main 8 girls of Homestuck are some of the best female characters in any work of fiction I’ve read in a very long time. many of them have integral parts in the plot, and all of them have well developed personalities. besides trying to make all these distinct dress designs based on all the Lands, this was also and exercise in unique body/face types, to fit in with the whole “unique personalities” thing

Next of the Land of Frocks and Dresses: Nepeta in a LOLCAT dress!
the color scheme was simple but fun to work with—my main thing was portaying the “tea” part of it. i decided to go for a bauble dress shape (bauble-> bubble-> bubble tea), but I haven’t gotten much better since the last time I tried it with the Fluttershy dress :/
the lace and cat designs were hard, but in the end they were also pretty fun!

working on that whole “character variation” thing, oddly enough i paired them together (not intentionally) by similar headcanon facial features
aradia/rose: classic “pretty” features, straight not overly prominent nose. both i have the headcanon of thick, but shapely eyebrows (rose in particular because dave has MONSTER CATTERPILLAR BROWS so hers are probably a little thick) Aradia’s eyes are a little more sharp/”asian” looking
terezi/vriska: sharp features, long face, long nose, thin yet prominent eyebrows, strong jaws. rezi’s chin is more sharp and she has a bigger nose, vri is more boyish looking
jade/nepeta: round face, big, downturned eyes, “cute” features. jade’s eyebrows are smaller, neppers has a slightly more button nose, but overall pretty similar
but again i didn’t really portray it that well, dang
